たくさんの分野をまたいで，個物の集合についてモデル化し推論できることの必要性が増えており，結果としてオントロジーの分野でも興味を集めている．過去の研究で，ユーザがcollectivesの異なるタイプを切り分けることが出来るような集合？(collectives)のタクソノミーが提案された．そのタクソノミーはそれぞれのcollectiveを5つの基準で分類した．その基準は，membership, coherence, location, diffentiation of role, depthである．しかしながら，そのタクソノミーはどのようにmembershipにおける変化がcollectiveのidentityに影響を与えるか，roleの重要性を認識する方法，時間的な感度の問題について欠けていることが分かった．既存の研究から描くことで，この原稿ではどのようにcollectiveが十分に特徴づけられるのかを議論する．collectiveとmembers, メンバが担うrole，coherence(一貫性？)の基準の間の関係性を考察することによって．（つまり，私たちが現象をcollectiveであるように考察する理由）予備的な更新がそのタクソノミーに対してなされる．それは，collectivesを十分に特徴づけられるものである．
