この原稿では，BFOのような実存論者(realist)と遠近法主義者?(perspectivalist)の上位オントロジーのコンテキストで速さの形式化を行う．速さ(velocity)という単語は2つの異なる何かを参照する．それは，動きのプロセスで特徴づけられるプロセスである，動きの速さ(motion-velocity)と，動いている物にくっついている性質(disposition)である，物の速さ(object-velocity)である．ということが議論されている．motion-velocityは3つの異なる種類がある．left-velocity, right-velocity, bilateral velocity．motion-velocityはobjectvelocityなしに存在できる．Tooleyに提案された思考実験で明らかにされている通りである．しかし，私たちの世界では，慣性の法則，ニュートンの第一法則が，全ての物は慣性の性質(disposition)と，私たちが"object-velocity"と呼ぶよく似ているんだけど異なる性質(disposition)を持っていることが示唆されている(imply)．これらの2つの性質はright-velocityによって実現されている．left-velocityは慣性のトリガーになっていて，object-velocityを存在させている．
